“The Role of Substance Use in Media”
This workshop will focus on the role of how substance use has been portrayed in the media in the 20th and early 21st centuries. It will look at visual media in the movies and television, including commercials and marketing. Video clips will highlight the topic and discussion will investigate how Western culture, legislation and advocacy have been affected.
Lawrence A. Dunbar, MS, CAADC, MISA II, CPS, PCGC has worked in the field of substance abuse treatment, prevention and mental health for more than twenty years. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Master’s Degree in Health Service Administration, both from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois where he currently works as an instructor and Program Coordinator of Addiction Studies. In addition, he also earned a Certificate in Addictions Counseling from Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, Illinois where he currently teaches as an adjunct instructor in their Addiction Counseling Program.
